Resident selection overview

This year, we are selecting 18 residents for our program. The academic year begins on July 1. Applicants are selected for interviews based on several criteria, including:

  • Alignment of core values with the program
  • Extracurricular experiences
  • Interest in serving an underserved population
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Medical school transcripts
  • USMLE/COMLEX scores

Although we do not have a set cutoff for USMLE/COMLEX scores to apply, those with higher scores and without any failures are looked upon favorably. Additionally, active clinical experience is preferred. Applicants who are less than 2 years out of medical school training are considered more highly.

All applications that are reviewed are done holistically in an effort to ensure equity.

Interviews take place from October through December. This year, interviews will take place virtually.

If selected to interview, you will meet with residency leadership and spend time with current residents. You will get in-depth information about the program and have the opportunity to ask questions.

Medical student rotations

We participate in the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities™ (VSLO®) program. Fourth-year medical students have the opportunity to extern with our internal medicine department. We encourage all qualified applicants to visit the department. And we invite visiting students to participate in daily conferences.
