Acceptance to the program

Geisinger School of Nursing students begin classes either in January or August each year.

The office of undergraduate admissions will review all admission materials. Geisinger seeks to admit talented, community-minded students who wish to pursue the nursing profession using a mission-aligned review of students’ metrics, attributes and experiences.

If you meet these requirements, we may invite you for an interview. During the interview process, you’ll meet with faculty members to discuss your motivation, personal qualities, academic potential and aptitude for the nursing profession.

The admissions committee will select the best candidates to offer program admission: those who demonstrate a commitment to the nursing profession and who have scholastic aptitude.

Candidates will be notified of the committee’s decision no later than May 1 for fall term applicants and by October 1 for spring term applicants.

Requirements of accepted students

  1. All students who are accepted into the program will be required to pay the enrollment deposit.
  2. All final, official transcripts must be submitted for every high school, college, university and technical school attended, regardless of whether a degree was earned. This includes any institution where coursework was attempted or completed. Providing incomplete or inaccurate academic history, including failure to disclose prior attendance at any institution, may result in the revocation of an offer of admission or dismissal if the omission is discovered after enrollment.
    • Final, official transcripts must be received by Geisinger School of Nursing Admissions team prior to the start of the matriculating term. Failure to submit all required transcripts by the stated deadline will result in the student being prohibited from beginning the term of entry (January or August).
  3. The student must have completed work equivalent to a high school education in good standing with a minimum of 16 units, including:
    • A “C” grade or better is required in algebra, general biology and general chemistry, and each must be one full credit. C-minus won’t be accepted.
      1. Four units of English
      2. Three units of social studies
      3. Two units of mathematics (one of which is algebra) and
      4. Two units of science (general biology and general chemistry) with a related laboratory or the equivalent.
  4. Students who have completed or are currently completing college-level general education coursework must earn a grade of C or better in all courses to remain in good academic standing for entry.
  5. Accepted students will be required to complete and submit pre-entrance medical screening requirements (see GCHS Nursing Pre-Matriculation Health Forms).
  6. Students must show proof of medical insurance, and this must be maintained throughout the program.
  7. Accepted students must submit and successfully pass all required background checks. See the GCHS Policy on Criminal Background Check and Drug Screening
  8. Accepted students must show proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent residency of the USA if indicated.
  9. The accepted student must meet GCHS GSON Technical Standards with or without a reasonable accommodation. Any student with a disability must provide medical documentation detailing the disability and the type of accommodation needed to meet GCHS GSON Technical Standards. Depending on the need for the accommodation, the Accessibilities Committee will review the information supplied by the student to determine their ability to meet GCHS GSON’s Technical Standards with reasonable accommodations.
  10. Certain vaccinations may be required of the accepted student. See the GCHS Policy on Immunizations
  11. Any prior legal or academic actions, as well as any actions occurring after acceptance and before matriculation at GCHS GSON, must be reported to the Admissions Office immediately by the student.
  12. The student’s attendance at GCHS GSON orientation program is mandatory.

It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that all required materials are submitted by the stated deadline. Failure to do so will result in the student being prohibited from beginning their term of entry and may result in the rescinding of the admission offer.
